Where does the exchange rate data come from?

All data comes from the official API of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan (cbu.uz). Rates are updated daily on working days. On weekends and holidays the rate of the last working day applies.

Why do the Central Bank rate and bank rates differ?

The Central Bank sets the official rate based on interbank trading. Commercial banks and exchange offices add their margin (usually 0.5–2%). The Central Bank rate is used for loan calculations, taxes and official documents.

Why does the sum constantly weaken against the dollar?

Uzbekistan is an importer of energy and goods. The constant outflow of foreign currency puts pressure on the sum. The Central Bank conducts a gradual managed devaluation: in 2019–2024 the sum lost an average of 8–12% against the dollar per year.

How to read the percentage change on the chart?

Accepted Answer

Plus means the foreign currency appreciated over the period (the sum weakened). Minus means the foreign currency depreciated (the sum strengthened). For example, USD +10% per year means the dollar became 10% more expensive in sum terms.
