How to Calculate Cost Price
Unit cost = (total batch costs) / number of units. Costs are divided into direct costs (raw materials, labor) and indirect costs (rent, depreciation, administrative expenses).
Direct costs are directly attributable to the product. Indirect (overhead) costs are allocated proportionally across all units: factory rent, utilities, administrative and commercial expenses.
Knowing your cost price, you can calculate the minimum selling price, margin and markup. A healthy margin for manufacturing companies is typically 20–40%.
