Cumulative costs vs car value

How the TCO Calculator Works

The calculator totals all car costs over the chosen period: purchase (down payment + loan), fuel, insurance, servicing, parking — and subtracts the residual value when sold.

Depreciation is calculated on a declining balance: each year the value drops by the set percentage of the current price, not the original. This more accurately reflects market behaviour.

The chart shows how cumulative costs compare to the car's value over years. The intersection point is when costs exceed the car's value.
